Calvary Chapel is a body of believers gathered together in the Lordship of Jesus Christ to worship Him, to be taught by His Word through the power of His Holy Spirit, and to grow in His agape love toward one another.
We come to worship Jesus Christ because He is worthy to receive all glory, honor, and praise, and He has created all things, thus, we emphasize songs of worship and songs of praise.
We are taught by the Word of Jesus Christ because it is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, leading us to a personal knowledge of Him. His Word is also living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart. The Word is also given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, so that the man and woman of God may be completely and thoroughly equipped for every good work, thus we emphasize the proclamation and teaching of God’s Holy Word.
We seek to grow continually in the agape, or unconditional, love of Jesus Christ because He commands us to love one another, so that by His love in and through us, the world will know that we are His disciples, thus, we emphasize unity and fellowship in the body of believers.
I was raised in the Catholic church, but, in the freshman year of high school, through the ministry of Young Life, I committed my life to Jesus in 1977. Since then I spent time studying the Bible and followed a more scripture-based path. While stationed at Osan Air Force Base in South Korea I was baptized by pastor Ray Miller, a Southern Baptist who was serving members of the military at the "Hospitality House" in Songtan, the town just outside the Air Force Base.
I started teaching a home based Bible study group in Southern California in 1984 while a member of Harvest Christian Fellowship and have been involved in ministry ever since.
I met my wife Karen at Harvest in 1985 and we married a year later. In more than 33 years and after four sons, she still somehow tolerates me.
I was ordained on Father's Day 2014 at Calvary Chapel Aptos where I teach and lead worship as needed. I am a USAF veteran and have spent the last 30 years in sales and management for technology-based companies.
I am a graduate of Bethany College, am currently the Leader of Prison Fellowship Ministries Santa Cruz. I am also a Participant with Christian Surfers International and a Bible teacher at Teen Challenge. I love the areas surfing opportunity's, having bought my first surfboard in 1962.
I am a retired large animal veterinarian. Having a scientific background I know science attempts to explain the world according to natural laws; the supernatural is totally discounted. That is where God comes in; He specializes in the supernatural.
I love God and His Word, and I love to teach the truth of God, therefore, I became a pastor at Calvary Chapel Aptos at 8065 Valencia Street.
I want to invite all to make a decision for Christ based on facts and faith. What we teach here is a matter of life and death.
